Tim Allen is taking fire from the Anne Frank Center and others for comparing being a conservative in Hollywood to 1930s Germany under Hitler.

Allen made the comment on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Friday, saying, “You gotta be real careful around here, you know. You’ll get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes. It’s like '30s Germany.”

Allen is a known conservative whose character Mike Baxter on the ABC sitcom “Last Man Standing” makes conservative comments and jokes, often blasting former President Barack Obama and former candidate Hillary Clinton during the show’s six-year tenure.

The Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect asked Allen to apologize for the comment and blasted him for the comparison. Executive director Steven Goldstein said on Facebook, “Tim, have you lost your mind? No one in Hollywood today is subjecting you or anybody else to what the Nazis imposed on Jews in the 1930s.”

“It’s time for you to leave your bubble to apologize to the Jewish people and, to be sure, the other peoples also targeted by the Nazis,” Goldstein continued, saying further that the comments trivialize “the horrors imposed on Jews in Nazi Germany.”

The Anne Frank Center is a U.S.-based organization that addresses civil and human rights in honor of Anne Frank, who was killed during the Holocaust as a teen but whose moving and poignant diary of her experiences hiding from the Nazis during the war was published after her death.

The Center said on its website that it “calls out prejudice, counters discrimination and advocates for the kinder and fairer world of which Anne Frank dreamed.”

Twitter took to Allen’s defense over the comments.
