The House Energy & Commerce Committee has referred Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast of Texas to the Texas attorney general for criminal prosecution for its alleged illegal sale of fetus body parts.
The committee's Select Investigative Panel, which made the reference, has been probing Planned Parenthood's alleged harvesting and sale of aborted fetal organs.
It has also referred for Planned Parenthood's closest business partners for prosecution to various state and local law enforcement, reports The Center for Medical Progress (CMP), a conservative anti-abortion activist group.
In 2015, the CMP released undercover videos allegedly showing Planned Parenthood employees discussing the sale of fetal tissue and organs. Planned Parenthood said the videos were heavily edited and meant to mislead.
CMP founder David Daleiden said in a statement:
"The Select Panel is the only official, comprehensive, nationwide investigation of Planned Parenthood's harvesting and sale of aborted fetal organs, and their findings confirm the criminal activity at Planned Parenthood that CMP's videos documented and show that the wrongdoing goes even deeper than anyone first suspected."
