The brutal hatchet attack on New York City police by a self-radicalized Navy veteran is only the beginning of a tidal wave of terrorist attacks about to descend on Americans.

Terrorism experts say that the assault on the four rookie officers by Zale Thompson, 32, of Queens, is not an isolated incident, but one of several jihadist "lone wolf" attacks that already have occurred, and a terrifying harbinger of the horrors that are to come.

"This is just the beginning — there will be more attacks," former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik told Newsmax.

Thompson, whose Facebook page is filled with racist and violent jihadist rants, hid behind a bus shelter and suddenly charged the police, swinging an 18-inch steel ax like a baseball bat, fracturing the skull of one officer and smashing the arm of another, before their colleagues could draw their weapons, shooting and killing Thompson, Fox News reports.

Thompson served in the Navy from February 2001 to August 2003, Fox reports.

The New York assault comes on the heels of the murders of two Canadian soldiers by self-radicalized converts to Islam this week, one run down by a car and one gunned down in an attack on the Canadian Parliament.

In late September, one woman was beheaded and another slashed with a knife by convert Alton Nolan, who screamed Islamic phrases as he attacked the two women at an Oklahoma food processing plant before being shot to death by an off-duty policeman, CBS News reported.

Kerik told Newsmax the attacks are coming as a result of the call by the leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) for followers around the world to launch "lone wolf" assaults on police and military in the West.

"These people are doing exactly that. It happened here and it happened in Canada and there will be more," Kerik said.

Thompson's Facebook page contains a photo of a heavily armed Arabic desert warrior, phrases from the Koran in Arabic, and posts that state, "If the Zionists and the Crusaders had never invaded and colonized the Islamic lands after WW1, then there would be no need for Jihad!" The Blaze reports. It also say Thompson was an "apparent Muslim"
before radicalizing.

Further, Thompson writes, "American military is strong abroad but they have never faced an internal mass revolt. They are weaker at home. We are scattered and decentralized. We can use this as an advantage. They are centralized and strong, which can be exploited as a weakness. Think of a swarm of bees (negroes) that surround and attack an elephant (America) to death," Fox News reported.

"This is the beginning," former NYPD detective Bo Dietl told Fox News. "Next thing that's going to happen is weapons in subways and attacks in malls. It's gonna be a body count. When are we gonna wake up in America when Americans are dying?"

"These guys chose police officers and soldiers," Kerik told Newsmax. "What if the guy with a hatchet went into an elementary school? Or a food court at a mall?

"Every state and local police officer from this point forward should be mandated by their departments to carry, on and off duty. These attacks can come anytime, from anywhere."

Both NYPD and FBI spokesmen refused to confirm that Thompson's vicious attack on the police was motivated by radical Islam, and Fox News said they are investigating that angle.

However, Breitbart News reported that Rep. Peter King, R-New York, characterized Thompson as "a person who has at least some terrorist Islamic leanings. Certainly radical Islamic leanings," and said we must "put aside political correctness" to deal with terrorists.

Thompson's Facebook page also states, "Helicopters, big military will be useless on their own soil. They will not be able to defeat our people if we use guerilla warfare. Attack their weak flanks ... If you get wounded who cares. If you die who cares. Eventually they will surrender and then the war will be over," according to Fox News.
