Ted Cruz is fighting to oust the swarm of "corrupt career politicians" that despise him because he wants to end their "gravy train" and return the nation to the principles of the Founding Fathers, his father Rafael Cruz tells Newsmax TV
"People in Washington are against my son. Those that are part of what my son calls the Washington cartel, corrupt career politicians in both parties who want to continue the gravy train, want to continue business as usual," Rafael Cruz said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

Ted Cruz has alienated much of the GOP elite in Washington — he angered former House Speaker John Boehner by fanning flames over budget issues and accused Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of lying.
But Rafael Cruz said his son’s moves on Capitol Hill are merely roiling the leaders of a broken system who want the status quo to remain.
"They don't want anything to change and that's why they despise Ted, because Ted wants to return America to the principles that have made America that uncompromising country, the only country around the world where your dreams can become a reality with hard work and perseverance. We need to restore our foundation," he said.
Cruz, a pastor, is author of the new book "A Time for Action: Empowering the Faithful to Reclaim America,"
published by WND, in which he discusses his quest to escape Cuban persecution and realize the American dream.
He told Malzberg that the conservative Christian contingent has become a powerful force in this year’s race for the White House.
Asked by Malzberg why so many Christian conservatives stayed away from the polls in the last election, Cruz said:
"For too many years evangelicals have stayed home and that's primarily being because the pastors have been hiding — many pastors — hiding behind the pulpit. Many Christians have been saying, politics is a dirty business, I don't want any part of it.
"But you know, if people of principle are not running for office, are not even voting, then we're going to get what we deserve. I think as our religious liberties have been more and more under attack, we have seen that the sleeping giant is waking up."
That "sleeping giant" he said, consists of "millions of people of faith that all of a sudden say, we can't take it anymore, we must have our voices heard."
"You know, Jesus commanded us to be salt and light. But we can't be salt or light if we are just locked up behind the four walls of a church," Cruz said.
"We must take that light out to the marketplace and I think I see that happening more and more across America."
