Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., ripped into Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg's husband, Chasten Buttigieg, after he complained about the Biden administration restarting student loan payments on Feb. 1.

Speaking to FOX News about an Instagram post regarding student loans Chasten had made, Cawthorn said that "Chasten Buttigieg's personal responsibility seems to be lost in Pete Buttigieg's supply chain crisis."

"When the Washington elites start thinking they're victims just because they have to pay their bills, expect that mentality to spill over into the radical socialist policies of the Biden administration," Cawthorn added.

Chasten, whose post read, "LOL no thank you Merry Christmas next," was captioned in Politico's Michael Stratford tweet. Stratford responded by saying, "Chasten, your student loan payments restart after January 31, 2022." Stratford adds that "Chasten doesn't appear to be a fan of the Biden admin's plan to restart student loan payments next month."

Chasten received criticism in July after complaining that he and his husband "couldn't afford" the high rent prices in Washington D.C. as they could only settle for a one-bedroom apartment.

The salary of the transportation secretary is $221,400, and Chasten works as a part-time school teacher. In addition to the couple's D.C. apartment, they also own a home on Lake Michigan in Traverse City.
