Steve Bannon: House GOP Wants 'MAGA to Go Away'

By    |   Tuesday, 23 April 2024 09:31 AM EDT

Steve Bannon, a campaign executive in former President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign, accused House Republicans of wanting "MAGA to go away" and for Trump to lose his bid to return to the White House, saying they are not doing enough to defend Trump in his legal battles.

"Why does [Rep. Jim] Jordan [R-Ohio] not have a criminal conspiracy investigation — from Fani Willis in Georgia to 'Big Tish James' in New York City?" Bannon said on his "War Room" podcast Monday, reported The Hill.

"The Justice Department, why have they not been sent letters [to] 'preserve your documents'?" he added. "Why have hearings not gone on? Why have they not broken these things up? You know why. Because they don't really have Trump's back."

Bannon also accused Jordan of showing only "performative" for Trump.

"Don't go on 'Hannity' and tell me everything you are going to do and send some tweets," he said. "Nothing's happening to support President Trump. Let me repeat that. Nothing."

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., was on Bannon's podcast to talk about her push to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., including after Saturday's passage of foreign aid bills for Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific region.

Greene accused the speaker of having "betrayed everyone," particularly Trump's "Make America Great Again" base.

Greene told Bannon she has not seen the base so angry since the 2020 election when Trump lost to President Joe Biden, reported The Hill.

"This is different," Greene said. "They're angry on a whole other level. And here's what really worries me: They're done with Republican leadership like Mike Johnson, who totally sold us out to the Democrats."
