China Wants to Probe Stealth Chopper From bin Laden Raid

By    |   Wednesday, 11 May 2011 01:49 PM EDT

China wants to examine the remains of the stealth helicopter that crashed during landing in the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. Navy SEALs destroyed nearly all of the top-secret chopper before they left bin Laden’s compound, but Pakistani officials say Beijing has asked to see what is left, ABC News reports.

“We might let them take a look,” one Pakistani official is quoted as saying.

The aircraft is believed to be a highly modified version of a Blackhawk H-60, which had never seen active service before the May 1 raid in Abbottabad. News footage since then has shown a tractor-trailer carting away the remaining parts of the helicopter.

Former White House counterterrorism adviser Richard Clarke told ABC that he would be surprised if the Pakistanis have not given the Chinese access to the chopper’s remains already.

"Because Pakistan gets access to Chinese missile technology and other advanced systems, Islamabad is always looking for ways to give China something in return," Clarke said.
