Fox News contributor Morgan Ortagus, a national security expert, will reportedly be the new spokesperson for the State Department, NBC News reports.
Former Fox News anchor Heather Nauert was the State Department spokesperson until she was picked to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations — a nomination she later withdrew after admitting that she hired a nanny who did not have a proper work visa.
Ortagus is a Naval reserve officer. She recently spent some time at the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program, more commonly known as TOPGUN, where she posted images of herself flying in an F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet.
Ortagus' government experience includes working as a public affairs officer for the U.S. Agency for International Development and two positions within the Treasury Department in the Obama administration.
Ortagus has not commented on the report, nor has the State Department. On Thursday, a Fox News spokesperson confirmed to Newsmax that Morgan is no longer a contributor.
