The 6-year-old South Carolina boy who used money he had saved to go to Disney World for his birthday to instead buy food for those fleeing Hurricane Dorian has been given a free trip to the amusement park, the Washington Examiner reported on Monday.
A Disney representative came to Jermaine Bell's house as he was celebrating his seventh birthday on Sunday and said she had a surprise for him.
When Bell saw Mickey Mouse and other Disney employees waiting for him outside his front door, his face lit up with excitement, saying "I was just super happy. I wanted Disney for a long time."
Bell had been saving up for almost a year for his first-ever trip to Disney when he heard about the hurricane. WBTW reported that he decided to buy hot dogs, chips, and water for the evacuees and stood outside his grandmother’s home in Allendale, South Carolina along the highway and offered it for free to the those fleeing the storm.
Bell’s mother Lauren Creech said, "Never in a million years could we have expected anything like this from [Disney]. It really does instill in him that when you do good, good comes back to you."
Bell and his family will visit the Orlando parks later this month when he is not in school, according to CNN.
He said helping others was worth the wait to go to Disney, explaining "Be strong, and if you do good things, you will be rewarded," he said.
