Sen. Tom Cotton warned Friday that President Donald Trump must "remain deeply skeptical of North Korea's intentions" after he agreed to meet with dictator Kim Jong Un to discuss denuclearization and that "under no circumstances should the United States and our allies grant unilateral concessions."
"The patterns of U.S.-North Korea crises are well-worn and North Korea's nuclear and missile capabilities are obvious," the Arkansas Republican, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said in a statement.
"A summit could possibly break those patterns and lead to the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."
Trump agreed Thursday to meet with Kim by May, South Korean officials announced, and White House press secretary Sarah Hucakbee Sanders said Friday that no talks would occur "until we see concrete actions that match the words and rhetoric" of Kim.
"But we must remain deeply skeptical of North Korea's intentions and under no circumstances should the United States and our allies grant unilateral concessions," Cotton said.
