If President Donald Trump brings in people who are loyal to his agenda, things will be "OK for the next two years," Sebastian Gorka, who resigned his post as a deputy assistant to Trump in 2017, said Tuesday morning.
Trump needs "not just people who are patriots to America but loyal to the agenda that put him in the building," Gorka told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "One of the reasons I resigned in 2017 from the White House is at that point, with people like H.R. McMaster and others, there were very significant personnel, inside the building who simply were not on the Trump train."
Such staffers might have had "certain career reputations, but they weren't there for the reasons we were there," he continued. "Those are the kinds of individuals, yardsticks he needs to use."
He added Trump will need to continue building his administration, including keeping Mick Mulvaney on as chief of staff.
Gorka is the author of a new book, "Why We Fight: Defeating America's Enemies With No Apologies," which Trump praised in a tweet after his former aide appeared on the Fox News program Tuesday. The president said Gorka's book has "lots of insight."
The former aide said the two big issues Trump will need to focus on in 2019 are he has to make it clear the border wall is "non-negotiable," even while the "lunatics will take over the asylum" when Democrats claim the House majority.
Trump also needs to continue reprogramming money from the defense budget, as the border is a national security issue, Gorka said.
