The summit with Kim Jong Un was held in Singapore so that the North Korean dictator could be given a vision of what his country could become if he gave up his nuclear weapons, former White House advisor Sebastian Gorka said on Sunday.
Speaking to host John Catsimatidis on "The Cats Roundtable" radio show on AM 970 in New York, Gorka said it was smart to bring Kim to Singapore, with its impressive story of making itself an economic powerhouse from nothing in such a short time.
Gorka said that giving Kim a tour of downtown Singapore, including bringing him to see the great hotel resorts in the city, "was a very super-subtle message that this is what can be done with free markets, with democracy, even in a country that has zero natural resources," emphasizing that this "was clearly the psychological intent of that visit."
Gorka conceded that Kim "is an evil guy. He's a dictator. He is part of an evil dynasty, but there's no way he walks away from that experience without that little seedling subliminally planted in his head to say this is possible here, and it could even be possible on [the Korean] Peninsula."
When asked about what the next step is with Pyongyang, Gorka said that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo "is working out the concrete technicalities of what the denuclearization looks like" and insisted that there will be "an inspection regime the likes of which we've never seen before. We're not talking about the IAEA. We're not talking about the United Nations. We're talking about American inspection teams. We're talking about inspections of all sites."
He also emphasized that "most important of all, [there will be] snap inspections, unlike Obama's disastrous Iran deal."
Gorka added that the Chinese were central to moving Kim in the right direction.
"The Chinese made this possible," Gorka said. "Kim makes the final decision but, of course, he is dependent upon China's good graces for his regime to survive. And I think [China] got fed up. North Korea for them is a buffer zone. It's supposed to protect them. You're not being protected if your buffer is launching missiles over the Sea of Japan."
