Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said the latest controversy surrounding him is "old news," and the that Democrats are pushing the issue to distract from his achievements.
"If you look at the facts out there, this is old news. This is about a case that was closed last March, " the Republican Walker said on "Fox News Sunday." "A Democratic district attorney in Milwaukee County spent multiple years looking at all this information."
Walker said the same thing a day earlier at the National Governor's Association meeting in Washington, D.C.
"Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace noted that case was indeed over and that Walker had not been charged, but he added that the case of secret email accounts was news in Wisconsin this past week because more than 20,000 emails had just been released to the public.
The controversy stems from Walker's time as Milwaukee County Executive when county employees used personal email to work on political campaigns, which is illegal. Six people connected to Walker were convicted.
When Wallace asked Walker whether he used a private email address himself, Walker didn't answer directly.
"You had a Democratic district attorney spend almost three years looking at almost every single of one those communications, interviewing people, talking to people and closed the case last March," he said.
Walker blamed the recent document release on Democratic operatives in the state and Washington, D.C., "that desperately want to switch the subject from the fact of things like us taking a $3.6 billion budget deficit and turning it into a nearly billion dollar surplus."
Walker is currently up for re-election as governor and is talked about as a contender for the GOP nomination for president in 2016.
