Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt has talked a good game about undoing former President Obama's climate policies, but conservatives are simmering that he's not willing to do what is necessary, Politico reported.

At issue — revoking the EPA's "endangerment finding" from 2009.

Overturning the claim that greenhouse gases are a threat to humans is essential to putting Obama's climate policies in the rearview, but Pruitt is hesitant to do so and he's drawing the ire of conservatives, Politico reported.

"Getting rid of the Clean Power Plan is just not enough," Myron Ebell, the former leader of President Donald Trump's EPA transition team, told Politico.

Ebell added that leaving the endangerment finding in place gives President Donald Trump a climate policy that can be characterized as Obama lite.

"Before you know it you end up having to do a Trump Clean Power Plan," Ebell told Politico.

Politico reports Pruitt is balking at overturning it because he fears the legal ramifications would tie up the agency in a prolonged court battle.

Conservatives aren't buying it, believing instead that Pruitt is setting up a run for governor or the Senate.

Axios reported that at least one conservative group has petitioned the EPA under Trump to reopen the finding.

It's the latest in what has been a rocky start for Pruitt since his confirmation. Last week, a member of Trump's beachhead team at the agency resigned amid a bitter dispute with Pruitt and his team, while another member of Trump's eyes and ears at EPA has been barred from attending meetings.

Trump on Tuesday is expected to roll back a host of other Obama-era climate policies, including the Clean Power Plan.
