In the wake of the FBI's raid on former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home, Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., stressed Wednesday that he is not under investigation by the bureau after agents seized his cellphone.

"While that story blew up, I heard from my attorneys, who talked directly to the Department of Justice, who said that I, their client, am not a target of this investigation," Perry told Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight."

Perry said on Tuesday that he was given a warrant as agents asked for his personal cellphone.

The chair of the House Freedom Caucus told "Tucker Carlson Tonight" that the FBI showed up while he was traveling with his family and confiscated the device.

"If they would have just contacted my attorney, certainly, we would have provided the information necessary, as required by law," Perry said.

"And that would have been the end of it," he continued. "But they want this spectacle. They want this show. They want the intimidation."

On Monday, Trump confirmed that a number of FBI agents executed a search warrant at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida.

"Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate."

FBI agents were reportedly looking for classified documents that Trump allegedly brought to Mar-a-Lago after he left office, possibly in violation of federal law, if true.

Saying that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI have been weaponized for political purposes, Perry and other Republicans have denounced the raid on the 45th president's home.

Both the FBI and the DOJ have remained tight-lipped about the collection of Perry's phone and the raid on Mar-a-Lago and have not publicly commented.

"I think that they're scared to death that President Donald Trump is going to come back in 2024 and win reelection," Perry said. "And they're going to do every single thing that they can to make sure that doesn't happen, including make up some kind of charges from the National Archives."

The Keystone State congressman has not cooperated with the Jan. 6 committee, which has claimed that he was one of several GOP House members who angled for a pardon from Trump. Perry has denied the committee's allegation.
