Poll Finds US Adults Think 'SNL' Too Political, Leans Left

A plurality of American adults think "Saturday Night Live" has gotten too political and said it leans left politically in a  new survey.

Key results in the Morning Consult/Hollywood Reporter poll:

  • A combined 54 percent said they hold a very favorable or somewhat favorable view of "Saturday Night Live, which often takes shots at President Donald Trump.
  • 48 percent said "SNL" leans more liberal politically, while 5 percent said it leans more conservative.
  • 31 percent said "SNL" is incorporating too much politics into its sketches, while 4 percent replied too little. 37 percent said the show's sketches have the right amount of politics.
  • A combined 39 percent said they either strongly or somewhat agree that "SNL" has gotten too political, while a combined 30 percent said the opposite.
  • Former President Barack Obama (14 percent) was the top choice of respondents when asked who they would most want to see appear on the show, followed by President Donald Trump (12 percent), former Vice President Joe Biden (4 percent), Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. (4 percent), former President George W. Bush (4 percent), and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. (4 percent).
