Santorum: Blue-Collar Jobs a Top Issue

By    |   Sunday, 01 February 2015 04:41 PM EST

Former Sen. Rick Santorum, a possible GOP presidential contender in 2016, said Sunday that blue-collar jobs are one of the top areas he'll focus on if he seeks the nomination.

"I'm the only candidate … who has a jobs program that really focuses in on workers," the Pennsylvania Republican told host John Catsimatidis on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York. "I'm the only Republican who' publicly said that we do need to increase the minimum wage."

"We have a message … how we have to get America back to work again – particularly blue-collar Americans, the 70 percent of Americans that don't have a college degree, who are not finding the economy to their liking these days," Santorum said.

His campaign would focus on bringing back manufacturing to the United States and improving construction and energy production, he said.

Santorum also said he has the most foreign policy experience of any prospective candidate,  having spent eight years on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"When I left the United States Senate in 2007, a lot of people said, 'Oh, Rick, you're a social conservative,' he said. "Well, I didn't go to a social conservative think tank. I went to a think tank that focused on national security and wrote on radical Islam."

Santorum was a Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Foreign Policy Center.
