6 Killed, 3 Injured in Texas Shooting Spree

By    |   Wednesday, 06 December 2023 11:02 AM EST

Police arrested a man suspected of killing six people and injuring three in a shooting spree on Tuesday in San Antonio and Austin, Texas, CBS News reported Wednesday.

Two of those injured in the incidents were police officers. Both are expected to recover.

"The suspect is in custody and no longer poses a threat to our Austin community," Austin Police Department's Interim Chief of Police Robin Henderson said, the New York Post reported.

The unidentified suspect was booked into Travis County Jail on a capital murder charge, with more charges pending, Henderson said.

She added that the "series of violent incidents" in Austin began in the morning "and extended into the evening," NBC News reported.

On Tuesday morning in Austin, a police officer was shot outside a high school and then an hour later, a man and woman were killed in the southern part of the city, according to CBS News.

Later, a man on a bicycle was shot and injured before a second policeman was shot when officers responded to a burglary call, where two more people were found dead.

Police say the suspect then led officers on a high speed chase before being arrested.

Meanwhile, the Bexar County Sheriff's Department said the man arrested in Austin has ties to two people found dead in San Antonio, who were killed before the crime spree started in Austin.

Police have not released the shooter's name or potential motive for the shooting spree, according to Forbes.

"The nature of the relationship, if any, between the victims and the suspect is unknown," Henderson said.
