White House staffer Ryan P. McAvoy wrote the password to his encrypted ProtonMail email account on a piece of White House memo paper and left it at a bus stop close to the White House, the Intercept reports.
ProtonMail is an encrypted email provider often used by people who regularly handle sensitive information, including journalists and people in politics. The Intercept confirmed McAvoy’s information.
The report comes the same week House Intelligence Committee Democrats said they were interested in filing a subpoena to see whether Jared Kushner used Facebook Messenger, Signal, Slack, Instagram, Snapchat, iMessage and WhatsApp to communicate during the election and presidential transition and whether key witnesses of interest used WhatsApp to communicate with each other.
