Rove: Expect 'Flurry of Subpoena Requests' on IRS This Fall

By    |   Tuesday, 20 August 2013 11:11 PM EDT

Republican strategist Karl Rove expects a "flurry of subpoena requests" on the IRS scandal once Congress returns from its August recess.

The Government Organization Reform Committee, House and Ways Committee and others are likely to issue subpoenas in their probes of IRS employees targeting conservative groups, Rove said Tuesday on Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."

Van Susteren told Rove she has no patience left, and wants to know why subpoenas haven't already been issued. The scandal became public in May when IRS official Lois Lerner answered a planted question after a speech.

"I have no doubt at all in September and October three things are going to happen," Rove said. "We're going to learn a lot more about what went on, and we're going to be shocked by it."

He also expects subpoenas to be issued for documents and witnesses that Congress has been seeking for months.

"And third, I think were likely to see this thing turn into an even bigger embarrassment for the administration than it is now," Rove said.
