"Roseanne" – the envelope-pushing ABC sitcom that’s taken on such controversial topics as same-sex relationships and abortion – will address anti-Muslim sentiment in Tuesday’s episode.
On the show, recently rebooted after a nine-season from 1988 to 1997, Roseanne Conner gets so freaked out about a Muslim family living next door to her brood that she fears they may be constructing a bomb from a pile of fertilizer, Entertainment Weekly reports.
"What if this is a sleeper cell full of terrorists getting ready to blow up our neighborhood?” Roseanne asks her sister Jackie. "Any time something bad happens, it’s always somebody who lives next door to somebody."
Roseanne faces her prejudice by approaching the neighbors and asking for their Wi-Fi code to help her granddaughter.
"What transpires over the episode is lots of ignorance covered up in punchlines, with Roseanne ultimately realizing there is more to the folks next door than a pile of stinky dirt," the magazine’s Lynette Rice says.
Roseanne, played by the Roseanne Barr, is a supporter of President Donald Trump. Barr is also a Trump supporter in real life and has taken digs at former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
