The Democratic candidates' seven-hour-long CNN town hall on climate change Wednesday night showed their party's "lurch even further toward socialism," Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said Thursday.
"Their answer to everything is more government control," McDaniel told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "'We want to control what you eat. We want to control whether you can fly. We want to control how you eat, what utensils you use.' Everything is more government control and limiting freedoms."
Democrats also want to limit the United States' economy, McDaniel claimed, meaning that there is no way the country can lead on any issue if there is a recession and if the nation doesn't have high wages or great jobs.
"Those are the things that President (Donald) Trump is focusing on," she said. "We're in a position of strength when we have a strong economy on every issue."
Show host Bill Hemmer noted that polling numbers vary between the parties, with the issue being especially popular among young voters, but McDaniel insisted Republicans also care about the environment.
But Democrats are going through "extreme measures" such as the Green New Deal that won't work, said McDaniel.
"A boondoggle they can't pay for that will destroy our economy and bankrupt families across this country is just not the answer," she said. "We're ready to have this debate."
