The new drone built by Northrop Grumman is not only the first drone able to take off and land on an aircraft carrier, but is also the first that can carry out a mission on its own, with no remote pilot.

The X-47B, which some are calling the robot drone, will give the U.S. Navy a powerful new tool and allow the United States to carry out sensitive military operations in far-flung areas of the world with no U.S. bases nearby. It could also serve as a weapon against China ’s growing arsenal of missiles aimed at U.S. aircraft carriers.
