It is too soon to decide whether impeachment proceedings should be launched against President Donald Trump, despite House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's contention he is "not worth" the effort, Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., said Wednesday.

"I think we have to wait for the [Robert] Mueller report, look at what the facts are," Khanna told CNN's "New Day." "We have to wait for the Southern  District of New York investigation . . . the committees' investigations, and consult with constitutional law experts and others and make a deliberate decision. I don't think it's fair to say one way or the other before the process has played out."

There are several freshman lawmakers who want to push for impeachment, despite Pelosi's statements, and Khanna said he considers Congress to be like being on a jury.

"How can you make a verdict or a decision before hearing all the arguments and hearing the closing statements?" Khanna asked. "I would say wait. The fairer we are in the process, the more confidence the American people will have, regardless of their political persuasion."

Khanna, who co-chairs Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential campaign, also Wednesday discussed the speculation over whether former Vice President Joe Biden or former Texas Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke will join the race, saying Sanders is focused on his message of ending unconstitutional wars and helping bridge the U.S. income and wealth gap.

"I think the more candidates the better," he said. "It will be a great debate."
