Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., on Friday called for mobile testing stations to help prevent people infected with the coronavirus from bringing the virus into hospital emergency rooms.

Scott, who has self-quarantined after being exposed to someone who tested positive to the coronavirus last weekend, told the Naples Daily News and The News-Press that mobile testing stations could help slow the outbreak. The senator said he feels “good,” and doesn’t have any symptoms of the virus.

“I think, just to use Naples as an example, if what happens is everybody goes into one of our hospitals’ ERs and they’re tested positive, you’re going to taint everybody that’s in those ERs,” Scott said.

“So you’ve got to figure out a way to get these people tested so the people that are doing the test are secured. The way to do it is, whether its mobile units, you’ve got to do a site where people can be in protective gear and they don’t show up to doctor’s offices or show up to ERs. And then if you do have to go to the hospital, and you think there’s a chance or tested positive for coronavirus, the people that take you there have got to be in proper attire. Otherwise, what we’re going to do is all of our EMS people, all of our healthcare workers, they’re all going to be tainted and they’re going to be quarantined like I am. So, I talked to the president about that. I’ve been recommending that we secure our entire border, not just Europe.”

President Donald Trump suspended travel from Europe, excluding the United Kingdom, for all non-U.S. citizens and non-visa holders on Thursday, in an effort to prevent the coronavirus from spreading further.
