Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., said Friday that Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., “can kiss Florida goodbye” after the Democratic presidential candidate praised some of former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro’s policies.
In a recent “60 Minutes” interview, Sanders praised Cuba’s literacy rates during Castro’s rule, and said, “it’s unfair to simply say everything is bad” about how Castro ran the country.
"You can kiss Florida goodbye,” Scott said on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” when asked about the comments.
“You're not going to have people who fight against socialism to vote for it again... Bernie Sanders is the only Democrat being honest. He says what he believes. The others are all socialists, they just aren't saying it.”
Sanders is a longtime democratic socialist.
Scott added, “Let's go back to Cuba for a second. Castro had firing squads. Here is a lady I gave a freedom award to. She got her hand chopped off by the Castro regime. She complained that they would close a school in her community and got her hand chopped off. Bernie Sanders is supporting this? This is crazy."
