A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to chop up Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and his family with an ax, the Louisville Courier Journal reported Monday.

Paul publicly mentioned the threat, which was allegedly called in to his Bowling Green office, at an event in Litchfield, Kentucky, on Monday, saying "It's just horrendous that we have to deal with things like this."

Capitol Police declined to comment, because the investigation is ongoing.

The arrest comes only a few days after a federal prosecutor filed an appeal in the case of another attack on Paul, according to the Lexington Herald Leader.

In that case, Paul's neighbor Rene Boucher was sentenced to 30 days and fined $10,000 for tackling and injuring the senator while he was mowing his lawn last November.

Paul suffered several broken ribs and had to be treated for pneumonia, which developed as a result of the injuries.

The prosecutor had asked for a 21-month prison sentence for Boucher.

The federal judge said the attack was "an isolated incident" between neighbors and was not politically motivated.

In another violent incident in which Paul was involved recently, he was also at the Republican Congressional baseball practice last year when James Hodgkinson shot several staffers, including Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La.
