Democratic presidential candidates are using reparations for those affected by slavery as a 2020 platform talking point, but just one-fifth of the electorate agrees it should be funded by taxpayers, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll.
An overwhelming majority, 66% of likely U.S. voters in the survey, are opposed to U.S. taxpayers paying reparations to black Americans who can prove they are descended from slaves. Just 21% back the taxpayer-funded reparations, per the poll.
Also, from Rasmussen, President Donald Trump's approval sits at 51%, with just 47% who disapprove of the job the president is doing. Going further, the poll found 36 percent strongly approve, compared to 37% who strongly disapprove, giving him a -1 Presidential Approval Index rating, according to the poll.
The Rasmussen Reports poll was conducted April 4-7 among 1,000 likely voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
