The Red Cross has issued an emergency plea for blood donors.
The agency says a summer slowdown in donations has left supplies critically short. All blood types are being sought, although O-negative blood is especially needed.
“Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood,” The Red Cross said.
As well, a single whole blood donation can help up to three people, according to the agency.
