Poll: Obama's Approval Rating Remains Low in Ohio

President Barack Obama's approval rating in the swing state of Ohio remains significantly low, according to the latest poll from the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Only 40 percent of voters in the Buckeye State approve of Obama's job performance, and 55 percent disapprove, in the poll released Thursday. It was taken Feb. 12-17 of 1,370 registered voters with a margin of error of 2.7 percentage points.

The approval rating is up 6 points from the all-time low job performance rating of 34 percent he had in November.

"The good news for President Barack Obama is his job approval rating among Ohioans has improved from its record low in November," Peter Brown, assistant director for the Quinnipiac polling group, said in a statement. "The bad news is that with a 40 percent approval rating he remains in the Buckeye doghouse."

"If numbers remain where they are or go lower, it's difficult to see him as an asset to Democratic candidates this November," Brown added.

The president's Ohio job performance numbers match up with the trend across the country. In a nationwide poll taken by Quinnipiac in early January, Obama had a 41 percent approval rating, up 3 points from his lowest job performance numbers since taking office at 38 percent in December 2013
