Prince Charles and Prince William ditched the queen for the meeting with President Donald Trump and first lady Melania, forcing her to meet the president alone, a source told The Sunday Times.
"This business of Prince Charles and Prince William not being there for the Trump visit was a snub," according to the paper's source. "They simply refused to attend. It's a very, very unusual thing for the queen to be there on her own. Usually she is accompanied by somebody. Prince Charles has been substituting for Philip a lot recently."
Prince Philip, 97, is retired from royal duties but "goes to what he wants to go to . . . if he had wanted to be there he could have been," and both princes refused to meet the Trumps, the source told the Times.
Prince Charles instead chose his company board meeting and a Gloucestershire police event, while Prince William participated in a charity polo match and Prince Harry had "other private engagements," according the report.
Other sources denied a snub, saying it was always planned for "Trump to meet solely with the queen."
Former President Barack Obama is reportedly close with Princes William and Harry and their families.
