If Fox Television Studios ends up producing the Hillary Clinton biopic for NBC, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus says he wouldn't move to boycott Fox News Channel from holding GOP presidential debates.
Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday, Priebus was questioned by host Candy Crowley
about a New York Times report that NBC was in early negotiations with Fox News Channel's sister network about producing the mini-series.
Priebus spent last week saying on cable news channels that if NBC's miniseries and a planned CNN documentary on the presumed presidential candidate air, his party will not allow either network to host Republican debates.
Crowley asked whether Fox News Channel, which is far more friendly to Republicans than other broadcast news channels, should be boycotted if the studios of its sister network become involved.
Priebus said he was more interested in who was airing the show, which would star actress Diane Lane as Clinton.
"I'm not interested in whether they're using the same caterer or whether they all drink Diet Coke. I'm not boycotting Diane Lane," Priebus said. "I'm going to boycott the company that puts the miniseries and the documentaries on the air for the American people to view. I'm not interested in whether they use the same sound studio or whether they use the same set."
NBC News' Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell have opposed their network airing the movie, and
Crowley herself has said that although the documentary is planned by an outside company, "Politically, it makes it very difficult for me."
