Conservative advocacy group PragerU said Friday it is being shadow banned and censored by Facebook, using a screenshot of page statistics to boost its argument.
PragerU posted a tweet around midday Friday that said it's being "heavily censored on Facebook."
"Our last 9 posts are reaching 0 of our 3 million followers. At least two videos were deleted last night for 'hate speech' including our recent video with @conservmillen."
The screenshot attached to the tweet showed that the last nine videos PragerU posted to its Facebook page reached between one and three people. Four other videos whose statistics were visible reached between 50,000 and nearly 100,000 people.
The group's social media influencer Will Witt posted a separate message on his Facebook page, saying the social media platform is preventing the nonprofit's videos from being visible to the public.
"We just discovered that PragerU is being heavily censored and shadow banned on Facebook," his post reads, in part. Shadow banning is when tech companies continue to allow users to post content but prevent anyone else from seeing it.
PragerU's YouTube channel has 1.6 million subscribers and contains nearly 450 videos. The group boasts three million Facebook likes and appears to have hundreds of videos posted on that platform. It was banned from using Twitter ads earlier this year.
Since 2009, PragerU has created and posted videos to spread conservative beliefs and values.
