President Donald Trump received his highest marks yet on the economy in the latest Quinnipiac University National Poll released on Tuesday.
While most disapprove of Trump’s overall job performance, 54 percent to 41 percent, the majority, 53 percent, of respondents approved of Trump’s handling the economy, while 41 percent disapproved. The president fared less well on issues like foreign policy, 42 percent approve to 53 percent disapprove; immigration, 41 percent to 56 percent; gun policy, 40 percent to 52 percent; race relations, 35 percent to 39 percent, and the recent wildfires in California, 31 percent to 51 percent.
Members of Congress also are unpopular with voters, as 62 percent disapprove of congressional Republicans, and 57 percent disapprove of congressional Democrats, though 62 percent did say that Democrats winning control of the House is good.
"Despite recent market downturns, voters are upbeat on what President Donald Trump has brought to the economy, but underwhelmed by just about every other aspect of the Trump tenure,” Quinnipiac University Poll assistant director Tim Malloy said in a press release.
The poll also found that most voters think Trump is not honest, 58 percent, lacks leadership skills, 55 percent, does not care about the average American, 53 percent, is not level headed, 63 percent, is not strong, 60 percent, is not intelligence, 55 percent, and does not share the voters’ values, 61 percent.
“Not honest, not level headed, not empathetic. The surging economy is offset by deep questions about the president's character and conduct,” Malloy said.
Quinnipiac surveyed 1,046 voters across the country from Nov. 14-19, and has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
