Sixty-seven percent of Americans do not want to see the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade, while 29 percent would like the landmark abortion decision tossed out, according to a new poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation.
The poll was conducted from June 11-20 – before Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement from the high court.
Here are how the results, released on Friday, break down:
- 53 percent of Republicans want to see the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade, while 43 percent do not.
- 16 percent of Democrats favor tossing out the decision, compared to 81 percent who do not
- 23 percent of independents want to see the court overturn the decision, while 73 percent do not.
- 42 percent say they are more likely to vote or a candidate who supports access to abortion services, while 29 percent say they are likely to support a candidate who wants to restrict access to abortion services.
The poll surveyed 1,492 adults. The margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.
