President Donald Trump and Joe Biden are nearly tied in North Carolina, according to a new Monmouth University poll.
The survey showed Biden with 47% of the vote, compared to Trump’s 45%. The difference falls within to poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
Here are how the rest of the North Carolina poll results, released Thursday, break down:
- 46% of voters have a favorable opinion of Trump, compared to 46% who have an unfavorable view of him.
- 43% have a favorable view of Biden, while 48% have an unfavorable opinion of him.
- 70% are optimistic about the 2020 presidential election, compared to 22% who say they are pessimistic.
- 42% say they are more enthusiastic than usual about the election, while 13% say they are less enthusiastic. 44% say they are about the same.
- 27% say they are likely to cast their vote by mail, compared to 71% who say they are not likely to.
- 46% say Trump has done a good job handling the coronavirus pandemic, compared to 51% who say he’s done a bad job.
- 46% say they would vote for Cal Cunningham, a Democrat, in the Senate race, compared to 45% who would vote for Republican Sen. Thom Tillis.
The poll, conducted Aug. 29-Sept. 1, surveyed 401 North Carolina voters.
