Pittsburgh, of all places, is in major preparedness mode for large-scale protests in the event that President Donald Trump fires Robert Mueller, instructing its detectives to bring riot gear until further notice, according to reports.
The 63rd-largest city in the country isn't taking any chances. Just in case the president pulls the trigger on axing the special counsel investigating alleged collusion with Russia, Pittsburgh detectives will be armed and ready.
Local TV station WTAE got ahold of a memo the Pittsburgh commander of major crimes sent to his department of detectives, instructing plainclothes cops to be on the ready for a "semi-spontaneous," "large-scale protest."
Of course, the president continues to indicate he will not fire Mueller, but the urgency in Pittsburgh implied that the 63rd-largest city knew something the rest of the country did not.
The ridicule that followed prompted a statement from the Pittsburgh Public Safety director.

"We receive information regularly about potential events and/or threats, assess the credibility of the information and plan for a potential event. In this case, we have not assessed the credibility of the potential for disturbances, and we do not have any knowledge of the President’s decision-making process," Wendell Hissrich said in the statement.
And the mayor.
More than 2,300 Pittsburghese have joined a petition to protest Trump's firing of Mueller, when and if that ever happens.
"You can't have officers out in suit and coat. But part of the uniform is the appropriate gear that they have," Hissrich later said.
