North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory's reelection campaign has criticized Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato for cancelling their upcoming shows in Raleigh and Charlotte over the so-called "bathroom bill."
The Charlotte Observer reports that "Team McCrory" fired off a combative tweet against the pop superstars, accusing them of "getting involved in things they clearly don't know anything about."
"[They are] protesting political differences by denying their service, punishing their own fans & hardworking people of NC."
The North Carolina Democratic Party retorted that the McCrory campaign's tweet sounded like a "Kanye West-style Twitter rant."
Jonas and Lovato said they cancelled their shows to protest a state law that "takes away some of the LGBT's communities most basic rights and protections." Bruce Springsteen and others have also pulled their shows from The Tar Heel State.
The North Carolina law forbids local areas from passing nondiscrimination laws and would require people to use the bathroom that corresponds to their gender when they were born.
