Report: Palestinian Official Attacks Snub by Obama

By    |   Tuesday, 19 March 2013 10:31 PM EDT

An official of the Palestinian Authority selected to provide the official response to President Barack Obama’s visit to Israel said on Tuesday that the president’s refusal to meet with Palestinians is disappointing and “speeds up the end of two-state solution.”

Mustafa Barghouti, head of the Palestinian National Initiative movement and a regular participant in protests against the army, said Obama’s inaction in the Mideast was “especially dangerous and unacceptable in the face of the establishment of an even more extremist, settlement-expanding Israeli government than its predecessor,” the Jewish daily Haaretz reports.

Obama’s policy speeds up the end of the two-state solution, Barghouti said, adding that he will recommend to every Palestinian leader to tell this to the president, Haaretz reports.

According to Barghouti, Obama raised expectations at the start of his first term when he called for a halt to construction of settlements, Haaretz reports, but he quickly abandoned the demand and now expects Palestinians to renew negotiations that have gone on for 20 years.
