Olivia Newton-John has opened up about her ongoing battle with breast cancer in a candid interview with People magazine this week in which she slammed rumors of being on death's door. The 70-year-old "Grease" star has been undergoing treatment for stage 4 cancer and in January reports sparked widespread speculation she was close to death.

"My friends were calling and believing this stuff," she told People. "I had to say, 'You really think if it was that bad you wouldn't know?'

"Those things are so stupid. Why not just go, 'Here I am, and I'm fine!'" she explained of her decision to release a video on social media to address the rumors. "We just nipped it in the bud."

In the video, which was posted to Twitter and Facebook, the four-time Grammy Award winner told fans she was doing great.

"And I want to wish all of you the happiest, healthiest 2019 that's possible," she said.

Newton-John has grown accustomed to false reports surrounding her health. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, forcing her to halt her busy schedule. She beat the cancer and became an advocate for fighting the disease, but in 2013 she was again sidelined by the illness.

After a fierce battle, Newton-John once again confirmed last year she was undergoing radiation treatment for her third bout of cancer. However, Newton-John says she refuses to play the role of victim.

"I never say 'Why me,'" she told People. "Of course I had my moments, and my tears and all that. But I have a wonderful husband who supports me through those things.”
