GOP Rep. Kelly: Obama Disrespect for Law Must Be Stopped

Tuesday, 04 March 2014 06:15 PM EST

Americans must rise up against President Barack Obama's endless flouting of the law with the continual tweaking of the Affordable Care Act, Rep. Mike Kelly says.

"This administration runs things with a total disregard for the law. If you don't like it, spit it out," the Pennsylvania Republican told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"There should be a cry coming from the American people," he said Tuesday, "from our citizens: stop this! Stop it!"

Story continues below video.

On Monday, it emerged that the Obama administration is set to announce a new delay in the Affordable Care Act's implementation. It would allow insurance companies to continue to offer plans that do not meet federal standards.

Kelly says the latest tweak, just like past changes made without congressional approval, is calculated to help the Democrats at the polls.

"This is a tactic. This is a strategy that is highly strategized, and it's about elections. It's not about the direction the country's going in. It's about an election," Kelly said.

"These are people that would sacrifice everything just to get or to keep some power in the House or the Senate and presidency. So, to me as an American citizen . . . it's unforgivable."

Kelly, a member of the Ways and Means Committee, says he was offended by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's attacks on the people who have said their healthcare coverage has been adversely affected by the ACA.

Reid, in defending the healthcare law, said: “Despite all that good news, there’s plenty of horror stories being told. All are untrue, but they’re being told all over America.”

"When you hear Mr. Reid talk, it is so bizarre sometimes. You sit back and say this guy can't possibly be saying this," Kelly said.

"I mean, come on. Is that the best we can do? A lot of the things he said last week were so greatly offensive . . . [Reid] needs to come to Erie, Pa., with me, he needs to come to Sharon . . . to Butler . . . and face these people and say your story is completely fabricated, it's a horror story that doesn't exist and it's a lie.'''

Kelly says Obama's lack of a credible foreign policy is partly to blame for Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

"Look at our foreign policy, there really isn't one . . . We have to be the leaders on this. We can't be a Johnny Come Lately," Kelly said.

"If we can't be the lead on this . . . we lose our standing in the world and we lose our position as the first responders anytime there's an attack on human rights.

"They fired a missile today, they're testing it, an intercontinental ballistic missile . . . We don't need to be bullies, but we need to be there and we need to reassure our friends and our allies."
