A meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York this week would be a high-stakes gamble for both leaders. Obama would be expected to make some progress in persuading Iran to change course on its development of nuclear weapons. But Rouhani may not have any flexibility on this. LIGNET surveyed top foreign policy experts — including former CIA Director Michael Hayden, former UN Ambassador John Bolton, and Iran expert Michael Ledeen — to find out whether they think a meeting is a good idea, and what might come from it.
