President Claims 4 Million Have Enrolled in Obamacare

By    |   Wednesday, 26 February 2014 09:49 AM EST

President Barack Obama on Tuesday said that four million people have enrolled in Obamacare, as the administration signaled its push to sign up as many people as possible for the March 31 deadline.

"What you need to do is continue what you're doing and reach out with your teams in your respective cities, states, towns, counties because right now we only have a few weeks left," the president told a crowd of 300 activists at a summit for Organizing for Action, according to Fox News. "March 31, that's the last call," he said.

The Department of Health and Human Services also confirmed the 4 million figure on Tuesday, though the number fell far short of the administration's unofficial goal of 7 million by the end of March.

In a blog post, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Marilyn Tavenner said health officials continue to see "strong demand nationwide" and that more than 12 million calls have come into the federal call center since last fall, according to Politico.

"Our outreach efforts are in full force with community partners and local officials participating in hundreds of events each week, and enrollment assisters are helping more and more people enroll in coverage," she wrote.

Earlier this month, the administration announced that 3.3 million people had enrolled in Obamacare by Feb. 1.
