Obama 'Between Two Ferns': Zach Galifianakis Shows No Mercy (Video)

By    |   Tuesday, 11 March 2014 12:12 PM EDT

President Barack Obama joked with actor Zach Galifianakis on the latest episode of the actor's web-series "Between Two Ferns," on the popular video site FunnyOrDie.com, and true to script the "Hangover" star showed no mercy.

The satirical show, which lampoons serious interview shows like Charlie Rose with forced awkwardness and ill-prepared questions, did not spare Obama. Likewise, Obama played ball as he quipped back with his own observations, even subtly criticizing Galifianakis' acting career at one point.

"It must kind of stink though that you can't run, you know, three times," says Galifianakis.

Without missing a beat, Obama replies, "No, I actually, I think it’s a good idea. If I ran a third time it would be sort of like doing a third 'Hangover' movie. Didn’t really work out very well, did it?"

Galifianakis kicks off the interview by apologizing for having to reschedule on the president several times, citing his 'broken mousepad' and his great aunt's need for "diabetes shoes."

Obama said it was no problem, and, with tongue-in-cheek, explained that he was surprised people actually watched the show. In a tremendous display of audacity, Galifianakis' shushes Obama mid-sentence to cut off the end of his thought.

The parody continues in this fashion for a few minutes, until Obama brings up the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare.

In reaction, Galifianakis sighs loudly, and tells the president "Ok, let's get this out of the way. What did you come here to plug?"

"Have you heard of the Affordable Care Act?" Obama replies.

"Oh yeah I heard about that. That’s the thing that doesn't work right?" Galifianakis says.

In response, Obama defends the Healthcare.gov website, and proceeds to pitch sign-ups to Galifianakis' young audience.

The interview ends awkwardly as Obama presses a red button on the table in front of him, and it's revealed that they are broadcasting from the White House.

"You've been shooting these shows here in the Diplomatic Room? Who gave you permission to do that?" says Obama.

"Bush," Galifianakis responds sheepishly.
