US Watching to See If NKorea Acts on Nuclear Offer

Monday, 20 December 2010 02:08 PM EST

WASHINGTON - The United States said on Monday North Korea's reported offer to re-engage with the International Atomic Energy Agency could be a positive move, but cautioned that it was too early to judge whether the offer was genuine.

"If North Korea wants to re-engage with the IAEA, wants to reintroduce inspectors into its facilities, that certainly would be a positive step," State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley told a news briefing.

"We've seen a string of broken promises by North Korea going back many, many years," Crowley said. "We'll be guided by what North Korea does, not by what North Korea says it might do under certain circumstances."
