First responders across nine North Carolina counties may soon begin conversations with one simple question: Have you served?

The "No Veteran Left Behind Act" sailed through the North Carolina House of Representatives with unanimous support on Wednesday and will now be considered by the state Senate. If signed into law, several law enforcement agencies and first responders across the state will receive additional education and training in how to handle a mental health emergency with a veteran.
