NFL player A.J. Francis on Tuesday slammed the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for spilling his mother's ashes in his luggage following a bag check.
The New York Giants' defensive tackle took to Twitter to rip into the agency.
"Hey you pieces of s– at @TSA next time you a–holes feel the need to go thru my mother's ashes for no reason, make sure you close it back so her remains aren't spilled on all my clothes . . . the least you pieces of garbage can do is your f–ing job," Francis tweeted along with a photo of the suitcase with the spilled ashes and a "notice of baggage inspection."
TSA quickly apologized on Twitter, but spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said video footage of the inspection shows agents were not responsible for the spill, according to The Washington Post.
"Video review of the screening of Mr. Francis' checked bag at Los Angeles International Airport shows that it alarmed for an unidentified object," Lisa Farbstein told the Post. "A TSA officer discovered the unidentified object was an opened, unmarked ceramic container, wrapped in tin foil inside a small bag. Upon further inspection of the checked bag, the container was loosely packaged, unmarked, and the contents unknown to the TSA officer."
"The TSA officer completed screening of the checked bag, clearing it to continue to its destination," Farbstein said. "The container was carefully repacked and placed in the bag."
Farbstein added "TSA officers are trained to treat all travelers' belongings with care and respect."
TSA guidelines do not permit agents to open containers with cremated remains under any circumstances, per CBS Sports.
Francis, whose mother died last month, responded the TSA agents were "asinine and irresponsible."
