New Jersey high school teacher Howard Zlotkin was fired following an expletive-filled rant he gave students over Zoom on Wednesday which included his views about George Floyd.
"If you think I'm privileged then f*** you, because my daughter thinks I'm privileged and I don't speak to her," Zlotkin was heard saying to students during a class on landscape and design, according to NBC New York.
Timmia Williams, a 17-year-old who attended Zlotkin's class during the Zoom tirade, said the teacher focused his attention on Black students when he launched into talking about George Floyd. Williams said Zlotkin asked four Black female students to write an essay. Williams and her mother, Margie Nieves, contacted the school.
"I hear people whining and crying about Black Lives Matter, but George Floyd was a f*****g criminal and he got arrested and he got killed because he wouldn't comply and the bottom line is we make him a f*****g hero," Zlotkin said.
"Who does that? Who would curse, I don't even curse at my own daughter," Nieves said.
Despite the rant, Zlotkin was seen on Thursday teaching, again cursing at students, and yelling expletives at Williams for not completing the essay.
"I don't think you can make a case. You know what Timmia? You're full of s**t too," Zlotkin can be heard saying.
Nieves said, "Who does that? Who would curse, I don't even curse at my own daughter."
She added that her daughter began to cry following the tirade. "She was crying. She came to me, tells me, 'Mom why is it there's a problem with my skin?'" according to NBC News.
On Friday, Jersey City Public Schools, posted a statement after saying that Zlotkin was removed from teaching.
"The school was in the process of taking statements from students today before proceeding with disciplinary actions, and then the second video surfaced. The teacher will not have access to students or the school as we proceed. We are appalled by the statements, profanity, disrespect and treatment of students."
