WashPost: Navy SEALs Sent Home From Iraq for Drinking

A San Diego-based Navy SEALs platoon has been sent home from Iraq for drinking during deployment, reports The Washington Post.

General Order No. 1 prohibits alcohol use.

The report comes amid other allegations of misbehavior among Navy SEALs and other Special Operations Forces personnel.

"The Commander lost confidence in the team's ability to accomplish the mission," due to a "perceived deterioration of good order and discipline," the U.S. Special Operations Command said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for Naval Special Warfare Command said in a statement her unit is "actively reinforcing" with the entire force "basic leadership, readiness, responsibility, and ethical principles that must form the foundation of special operations."

"Leaders at all levels must lead in a way that sustains and sharpens that foundation," Cmdr. Tamara Lawrence said. "Discipline is a competitive advantage, and enforcing those standards is critical to our success on the battlefield."

Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher earlier this month was convicted of posing with the body of a dead teenage ISIS fighter, but acquitted of murder and other charges stemming from various alleged war crimes.
