The Drive's "The War Zone" blog is heralding the arrival of "a new age of sea basing" — a highly modified Alaska-class oil tanker vessel that has been transformed into an Expeditionary Sea Base. It is now in route to the Middle East, and the novel concept promises to extend the reach of American power.

"The deployment marks a new age in America's ability to be able to project persistent naval power abroad," the website reports, "and is the first time a purpose-built sea base has been fielded by the Pentagon."
